The television and film industry in the UK are looking for new positions to fill, leaving entry for up and coming candidates to snatch. It is common knowledge that both industries are quite hard to get into especially if you don't have family to assist and guide you into place.
If you are like me, an eager student looking to make a mark on the industry and provide your own opinions in a viusually creative way. Then how do you get started and where are the best places to start. You may know the position but production running is the most viable option for "getting your foot in the door".

I have only done production running a few times and am very grateful to have had the opportunity to do this. The reason I think it is so valuable is that you are in essence a spectator to a working set. In this position you can bounce around to a range of departments and see the functioning of its teams. Of course running around getting food and drink orders is not the most fun but that is not what this position is about.
Being in the working environment is what I would say is the main advantage to being a production runner. Secondly is networking and if you are on route of doing this then you probably know how important doing such a thing in Film and Tv is. Building relationships with colleagues and expressing your passion/interest for a certain department on set will be noticed and noted. Keep this in mind and cease each chance when it comes.
Production running is important and these roles are sought after especially on big blockbusters so throw emails to production companies and even try to use LinkedIn to get in contact with production operators, who could secure you a position for running even if it is for a day or two.
